Rock the Boogie

[G]On my way to [C]dance at the boogie
[G]find a partner [C]keeping up with me
[C]my beer buzz pumping through my veins
[G]don’t get in my way…

Boogie dance floor is not rocking
full of people, not a soul dancing
they’re just standing , an afraid group
I’m gonna bust a move…

[Chorus]
[D]rock [D]rock [A]rock, [G]rock the boogie
rock rock rock, boogie rocking
rock rock rock, rock the boogie
[C]help me – rock the [G]boogie

the crowd stares only me dancing
many feet, but one starts tapping
what I started, a chain reaction
they’re all dancing…

crowd is now hitting the floor
showing up in full force
they’re all dancing harder than me
that’s what it takes to rock the boogie

[chorus]

comments were: it doesn’t rhyme. Try plucking a melody on piano? Lessons learned: move on. No matter how much rewriting, the story does not become more compelling. Choose better topics! Goals: clear melody and a different chorus.

I want to flirt and feel attention
capture a cowboys fleeting glances
I’m dancing in the spotlight with no shame
he comes over to play my game

Our hats meet and the rims are bumping
buckles are clicking and boots are jumping
my hands start wandering all over his feelings
his heart I am stealing

A fire in his heart I started with my spark
a country dance floor I like to rock
I want to be rocked

heart, start, apart, marked, start, caught, shot, dropped, bought, forgot, blocked, knocked, dot, parked, topped, sparked, embarked, unmarked, cropped, restart, unlocked, pop, watch,, spot, trigger, blast, lay off, heat
toss, swinging swaying tossing
he moves closer with mindless chatter
about things that really don’t matter
being seeing heeding leaning meaning needing reading theiving weaving
revealing, appealing, concealing, 4 wheeling, ordeal, unreal, kneel, surreal, squeal, cornmeal, repeal, field, revealing, dealing, heel, healing, stealing

We get in the back and start getting sexy
doing things that say ‘not acting like a lady’
reading my meaning of what I’m needing

12/6/24

Tired of girl entertainers today
girls, put some clothes on before you hit the stage

Our hats meet and the rims are bumping
buckles are clicking and boots are jumping
swing me in and out throughout the crowd
while the band plays country music way too loud

I wish it could stay just like this
but the cowboy leaned in for a kiss
ducking and dodging is part of the dance
just having fun not looking for romance

[chorus] Belt buckle boogie, belt buckle boogie
dancing all night to my favorite song
belt buckle boogie, belt buckle boogie
belt buckle boogie all night long

12/16/2024

how many times have we heard dance and romance rhymed? So amateur.

Look at it closely, how can I say the same things in different words and not rhyme the obvious. AND what is it about, other than just wanting to get laid?

apart
to dance all night
dance
you’re a target
lasso your heart
at any cost
a high price tag
for what it’s worth
easy going
not forever
going nowhere
simple partner
that I can ride
just for one night
easy side piece
side kick
at any time
don’t fall in love

my hands wander all over his feelings.
Packing a pocket of playful attention to
rub in wounds of the broken hearted

Our hats meet and the rims are bumping
buckles are clicking and boots are jumping
my hands wandering all over his feelings
his heart I am stealing

My spark started a fire in his heart
A fire in his heart I started with my spark
a country dance floor I like to rock

to lavish on the heart of an unsuspecting
marching through like it’s a parade

12/21/24

you just gave up and quit on ‘cowboy store’. Just couldn’t get anywhere with the chorus after working so hard on the story verses.

START with a chorus on this next song?

12/24/24

eh, so what, it’s first 100 so just go with it…
Clarity on story, about a girl just wanting to dance and the STRATEGY she has to concoct to stay away from slow witted cowboys because she just wants to rock…

Country Boogie

is it part of the story? Does it advance story? stop JR rhymes

I want to flirt and feel attention
capture a cowboys fleeting glances
I’m dancing in the spotlight with no shame
he comes over to play my game

Our hats meet and the rims are bumping
buckles are clicking and boots are jumping

my hands wander over his feelings
his heart I am stealing
his romance is part of my fun

A fire in his heart I started with my spark
a country dance floor I like to rock
I want to rock the country boogie
I want to rock the country boogie
I like to rock the country boogie

slow two stepper leaned in for a kiss
ducking and dodging is part of my dance
(i am a fast get away) distance, insist,
(because I like to rock the country boogie) say something else, save for chorus hook

swaying slow stepper leaned in for his kiss who the hell would say this?
We were grooving to a fast dance
slow stepping cowboy leaned in for a kiss
I swung around to keep my distance
my style of dancing is different from his

(Me and a) cowboy grooving to a fast dance
he’s slowing down and leaning for a kiss
I swing around to keep my distance
my kind of dancing is different than his

save for verse 2? spread out the story
ducking and dodging
swing away from mr. charm because I dance way too hard

with a fast dance I can plan my escape
doing what I can to keep us apart relate this back to rocking a boogie?
my boots don’t move that slow
(ducking and dodging) to keep him away

I fast dance because I am avoiding, a farmers daughter who is avoiding
(being stuck here) dancing in the country, it’s a free country
side stepping boots keeping us apart just says same thing as 1st verse?
he
moves too slow when I want to rock <-make less about him, more you rock
now people say I’m dancing too hard <- explain what a country boogie is. Explain why I don’t do country dancing.(free write below)

I’m still a farmers daughter <– could be a different song
but hard labor avoiding
desperate to live differently

What would a city girl sneak out to do? sneak out for a sip of moonshine? a smoke?
Playing strip poker, wearing high heels and not boots?
short skirts, all impractical wearing for a country setting.
avoiding the hard labors I endured as a little girl,

I like to rock the country boogie
( )
rock and roll in the country
I like to rock the country boogie

Damn 1 light towns dotted all over the county connected by a map of 2 lane roads all sewn together like grandma’s quilt.

I’m a rock girl stuck in this country town having barn dances. Damn 1 light towns dotted all over the county connected by 2 lane roads all sewn together like grandma’s quilt. Can’t even sneak out unless you can walk there, in the dark. So damn redneck, I’m walking into the Cross roads with my new rock haircut and nobody even recognizes me. But let’s talk about this girl in the song. She has on her boots and her hat but listens to hard rock and would rather be in the mosh pit. attending country dances is just a way for her to fill time until she can move away from the country. She doesn’t see the charm of a simple life, she finds it boring and slow. She is not slow, she is fast. Traveling from town to town sewn into theat quilt, looking for something, maybe a way out? She travels and travels away, but somehow circles back into being in a small town with seemingly no way out? It’s like shes trapped in that quilt map and the map never leads out of the country. does the city even exist? Is tit the city even that she is looking for? What is she looking for anyway? she wants to dance really hard, she wants to dance too hard for what is appropriate at the country dance. and when she cuts loose dancing the country fucking bumpkin boioys don’t know how to interprest that, they immediately think shes a wild ass that is easyy and loose . swingin free doesn’t mean anything to you, boys,.
she thinks they’re emotionally dumb
so she toys with their hearts for fun
How does she toy wityh hearts for fun? that could be interesting and gives personality? I just want to rock the country boogie. I just want to dance the way I want to dance, Inot that swo step bullshit, so slow, no originality, no room for personal expression and too slow. I have energy and am young. I don’t fit in with thises old people.

What is a country boogie? and why am I so unhappy with it that I have to rebel against it and dance rock instead of the expected 2 step. (different song, I aint staying in the country just to marry a farmer and spend the rest of my entire life on a farm not knowing what it’s like to live any differently) A country boogie is a barn dance. its when the town comes together with a little music and all the bib overalls come out. redneck bubba. OK, not about them, pretend there’s some decently dressed young cowboys, but they still dumb and want to kiss a girl just because she’s dancing with them. Bales of straw, hay, lanterns, pitchforks, BBQ, cans of beer but not bottles, no glass unless it’s a moonshine mason jar. I just want to move and feel free without fear of a stupid cowboy coming on to me cuz hes so stupid he doesn’t know any better. draping fabric for decoration, but what about the people? the heart of the song is people. Don’t be a high school girl, be a 20’s something farmers daughter? I’m a farmers daughter desperate to live differently. Besides not dancing appropriately, how else? (keep related to the boogie, and unrelated to farmers actions) sneaking out back to sip moonshine, a smoke? What would a city girl sneak out to do? Playing strip poker, wearing high heels and not boots? short skirts, all impractical wearings. avoiding the hard labors I endured as a little girl, I’m grown up now let’s pretend this is a real dance, the barn dance aint a real dance because it’s a barn.

I don’t do country dances so the cowboys will not fall in love with me, so I won’t be stuck living a hard life of chores and work.

12/25/24

(Dancing with a cowboy and grooving) to a fast dance
he’s slowing down and leaning for a kiss
I swing around to keep my distance
my kind of dancing is different than his

I am the farmer’s daughter doing what I’m told to <- not relevant
but a city girl at heart, trapped in this hoedown <- not congruent storyline
I prefer high heels, not country western boots
and I will rock this place the way I want to

SO IF THIS IS A COUNTRY SONG, how many women in country (who prob celebrate being country) will identify with being trapped in a stupid hoedown? Wouldn’t that mentality be better suited for a rock/non-country song? Adjust lyrics to be more tolerant of the country lifestyle. Keep story line to preferring fast paced music over slow music in order to stay away from the cowboys falling in love.

but I’m not ready for a slow cowboy to fall in love don’t try to rhyme love!
I’m too fast to love a slow cowboy
My love is too fast for a slow cowboy
I’m too fast to love you slow
I dance too fast for slow dances
I dance too fast to love him slow
I’m too fast for his slow dancing
I boogie to fast for his slow dancing
I’m too fast to be slow dancing
I boogie too fast to love his slow dancing
I boogie fast and he’s dancing too slow
I boogie fast but he dances too slow
I boogie too fast for a slow dance
I boogie too fast and he’s dancing too slow
I like to boogie but he’s moving too slow
I boogie fast and he dances too slow
I like to boogie but he’s too slow?
I like to boogie in the country?
I like to boogie but he’s too slow to move
I like to boogie but he dances too slow for me

I can’t slow down for you, I don’t want to fall in love with a slow cowboy, I got to much to do in my own life, don’t kiss me,
My love is too fast for a slow cowboy
I’m too fast for the love of a cowboy
I like it too fast for the love of a cowboy

I like a fast boogie, not dancing too slow
fast dancing only at the country boogie

I keep these heels moving on my country western boots
and I will rock this place the way I want to

chorus:

I like to rock the country boogie
( I (don’t care) look out of place ) because you don’t know me
keeping it fast paced while I shake my booty<- first exit?
watch me rock and roll around (shaking my booty)
I would not look out of place if you knew me

you’d love me as I am, if you know me
( asking the band to ) keep it fast paced
(sick of ) (this music that is) country
I like to rock the country boogie
chorus SIMPLIFIED…
I like to rock it, in the country…

I like to rock a country boogie
I like to rock in the country
keep up if you want to rock with me
learn how to rock keeping up with me
no slow dancing can keep up with me
( blah) boogie in the country
I like to rock a country boogie

I like to rock a country boogie
no slow dancing can keep up with me
I like to rock it in the country
I like to rock a country boogie

I like to rock, in the country
no slow dancing can keep up with me
fast dance only at the country boogie
I like to rock, in the country

I like to rock, in the country
slow dancing can’t keep up with me
I like to rock, in the country
I like to rock, in the country

I like to boogie, in the country
slow dancing can’t keep up with me
I like to boogie, in the country
I like to boogie, in the country

I like to boogie, in the country
slow dancing won’t keep up with me
I like to boogie, in the country
I like to rock it at the country boogie

I like to rock, in the country
slow dancing won’t keep up with me
I like to rock, in the country
I like to rock it at the country boogie

but hard labor avoiding
desperate to live differently
not going to marry a farmer and spend my life here, so I avoid any advances from cowboys
sneak out for a sip of moonshine? a smoke? <–maybe 3rd verse?
then I slip out back to sneak a sip of moonshine
Playing strip poker,
avoiding the hard labors I endured as a little girl,
groovy, knew he, duty, juicy, KNEW ME,
rock and roll in the country, CITY

Rocking This Boogie

verse
Me and the cowboy grooving to a fast dance
he’s slowing down and leaning for a kiss
I swing around to keep my distance
I keep rocking a different dance

verse
a slow country boogie ain’t for me
I don’t fall in love slowly
heels of my boots are on the move

chorus
[F]I’m rocking this boogie
[C]I’m rocking this boogie
[F]dance faster to catch up with me
[G]and help me rock this [C]boogie

verse
no slow dancing can keep up with me <- what to say now? add another failed advance from another cowboy. WHAT ABOUT even the girls on the sideline, getting them up to rock the boogie? Don’t be sitting around just watchin!

12/27/24

Rocking This Boogie

I met a cowboy we are fast dancing
now he’s slowing down and leaning for a kiss
I swing around to keep my distance
and I am still fast dancing

a slow boogie ain’t for me
I don’t fall in love slowly
heels of my boots are on the move
and I [F]rock this boogie the way I want to

[Chorus]
[F]I’m rocking this boogie
[C]I’m rocking this boogie
[F]dance faster to catch me
[G]and help me rock this [C]boogie

girls I see you on the wall
leaning back waiting for a call <– kind of 1st exit?
step forward and join me
let’s speed up this slow boogie

work on verse girls I see you… KEEP the last line which leads into the chorus, but the first 3 lines need to be more action packed, more visuals.

12/28/24

A cowboy at the boogie asked me for a fast dance <- introduces boogie noun immediately, establish it’s fast, and still can rhyme dance. OOPS nope, that is past tense.
A cowboy at the boogie dancing a fast dance
Met a cowboy at the boogie – fast dancing
now he’s slowing down – and leaning for a kiss
I swing around to – keep my distance
because I’m still – rocking a fast dance

Rock this Boogie

Met a cowboy at the boogie – fast dancing
Met a boy at the boogie in a fast dance
Met a boy at the boogie – we are dancing
now he’s slowing down – leaning for a kiss
I swing around – to keep my distance
because I’m still – rocking a fast dance
because I am – still dancing

a slow boogie ain’t for me
I don’t fall in love slowly
heels of my boots are on the move
I [F]rock this boogie the way I want to

[Chorus]
I’m rocking this boogie –
I’m rocking this boogie –
dance faster – to catch me
and help me – rock this boogie

girls I see you on the wall
leaning back waiting for a call <– kind of 1st exit?
step forward and join me
let’s speed up this slow boogie

the boogie is lively, in a barn, with red white and blue streamers, canned beer, cowboy hast, straw, girls boots are dusty from shuffling around or standing around. the dust reminds me of pigpen. wooden floor. or could be cement blocks dance hall community center. people are gathering and talking but I want to dance and move. They’re all standing around because the band is playing slower music, we need hopping jumping music. Ask the band to play something specific that I know is a jumpy, moving kind of song, one you can’t stand still to. You start wiggling because you can’t help it. Music helps facilitate that, we aint here to meditate. And I don’t care if I’m the only one dancing. I do what I do, and usually people will follow too. They see me having a good time and they want to join too.

spectators on the wall are not helping, are like an anchor, weighing down the energy. I gotta get people moving If I want to keep, rocking this boogie. I talk to the band, can’t you speed it up? music not fast enough. So I’m dancing as hard as I can to the current song, but it needs to be faster. Not many people are dancing, but I am in my own world dancing not caring what other people think I look like. what if I’m bringing the energy and people naturally follow me. (more congruent to storyline). the spectators follow me.

Dancing as hard as I can bringing energy
on the dance floor spectators follow me <-where else?

join – like I bring them into a trance, the spectators watching me dance will slowly start to wiggle with me, then take a step forward, and next thing we know they start filling the dance floor. watching me dance they act like their in a trance. DANCE and TRANCE came about organically, but sounds like a 1st exit rhyme? Use trance, but don’t rhyme dance. can use ‘where they stand’. watchers start to wiggle where they stand. I like ‘forward’ and ‘floor’ soft rhyme. cutting loose, going wild, throwing down, busting a move, ZOMBIES, watchers stand lifelessly, dull, dead, soulless, flat, MOITIONLESS, rooted, idle, frozen in place, Stand/trance motionless/trance

(last verse – lead into HOW I facilitated this)
watchers on the wall – wiggle where they stand
following my lead – begin to dance
stepping on the floor forward – adding energy
floor of dancers now rocking this boogie <- yeah but took over MY job?
a floor of dancers – help this boogie

the band is kind of just shuffling along playing tired tunes, weak music, boring beats, Ask the band to play something specific that I know is a jumpy, moving kind of song, play a different song, we need a jumpy tune, something the most unskilled dancer can dance a jig to, can’t you speed it up? music not fast enough. So I’m dancing as hard as I can to the current song, but it needs to be faster. Not many people are dancing,

(something the most unskilled dancer can dance a jig to)
I’m dancing as hard as I can, I’m doing my part, I need the band to help, they do help by accommodating my request. we gotta get this place rocking, you gotta do it, play it, FEET/SPEED, as the band got more speed, people/zombies I see start to tap their feet, picked up the pace, cranked up the speed, nobody wants to be the first one on the dance floor usually, but once you get that first person out there, then the others follow and “flock to the dance floor” (cliché). I’m the first one to the floor, the leader, set the example, wait for the followers, it’s for you’re own good,

(verse)
I love a live band, but can’t you speed it up?
an empty floor of tired tunes – ain’t fast enough
dancing as hard as I can – picking up speed
the music picked up the pace and increased the speed
they’re watching me rocking – and tapping their feet

Met a cowboy – we are dancing<- met is past tense!
I meet a cowboy – we are dancing
he’s slowing down – leaning for a kiss
I swing around to – keep my distance
because I am – still dancing

a slow boogie ain’t for me
I don’t fall in love slowly
heels of my boots are on the move
I rock this boogie the way I want to

[Chorus]
Let’s rock this boogie –
Let’s rock this boogie –
dance faster
to catch me
and help me
rock this boogie

following my lead – begin to dance
stepping forward – adding energy
a floor of dancers – help this boogie

watchers on the wall wiggle where they stand<-not something you say

chain reaction, rhythm is contagious, rhythm is catching, catchy,

I love a live band, can they speed it up?
empty floor of tired tunes – ain’t fast enough
<- doesn’t advance story
crowd just standing there – watching me
dance as hard as I can – gaining speed
they follow my lead, tapping their feet
it’s a chain reaction – start dancing

(circle back to the cowboy for closure)
adding energy – to rock this boogie

the slow dancing cowboy again I meet
this time he’s keeping up with me
he dances and shakes full of energy
has what it takes to – rock this boogie

shock, wonder dancing again I see, see again, come back around, found, cowboy went dancing by me, keeping up with me, joining me
the cowboy I now see is able to keep up with me

quickly
received, relieved, believed
shows me that the message is received
then, when, extend, attend, intend, END

Rock this Boogie

I meet a cowboy – we are dancing
he’s slowing down – leaning for a kiss
I swing around to – keep my distance
because I am – still dancing

1/1/25 – 1/2/25

things still bothering me: narrow the subject matter to just the dislike of slow dancing. the 1st verse includes the dislike of the kiss (and slow dancing) but is clouding the subject. Songs are about 1 thing only. How else can we say “I don’t dance slowly” and a “slow boogie ain’t for me”. Simplify chorus lyrics, but make more syncopated because your talking about rocking for Gods sake.

[G]me and a cowboy and a first dance
[C] starts out fast [G]grabbing my hands
[D]he’s dancing too slow [C]keep my distance
[D]I do not [G]slow dance

I’m at a dance the town calls the boogie. The town boogie. If you get rid of the cowboy, then you also have to rewrite the last verse, so keep cowboy? that’s just confusing because now it’s about how slow a dancer HE is? How bad a dancer HE is? Stay with the crowd theme? UGH. THE DANCE FLOOR IS EMPTY. but I’m not afraid to dance by myself, it’s a fast dance. If I set the example, other dancers will follow or fall in to the dance floor. I just concentrate on the music coming from the band, I’m locked into the groove. The town dance is good most of the time I can just dance as hard as I want to, but sometimes people are just so slow to get to the dance floor I feel like I’m sometimes begging them to start dancing earlier so we can get the place rocking earlier (or faster). I’m asking them to help rock the boogie by not standing around waiting. WHAT causes a slow boogie? people who can’t dance (don’t know how)? too afraid to ask a partner. too self conscious, afraid to be first, waiting to be asked. People who don’t show up and stay on the couch. Band is playing moderate tempos instead of upbeat tempos.

At the town boogie I’m ready to dance
wearing a flirty skirt that looks great when I spin around (move)<- gender
boots broke in just right for (a dance move)
sitting around waiting is killing my beer buzz
I need to move around and keep the buzz pumping through my veins
it gives me an easy start
If I sit down the party is over cuz it makes me tired and hard to get started
ready to break hearts
looking for a target partner who can keep up with me because I don’t dance slow tonight
my kind of dancing is different than his
I asked the band, can you speed it up?
an empty floor of tired tunes – ain’t fast enough

Rules of engagement of how to rock the boogie?
[ ]don’t dance slowly
[ ]keep it moving
[ ]follow me
[ ] at the boogie

On my way to dance at the boogie
find a partner keep up with me
and my beer buzz pumping through my veins
tonight I’m gonna rock
I will rock my way

Boogie dance floor not rocking
full of people, not a soul dancing
they’re standing still like a scared group
and wasting away waiting to be second not part of story
I ain’t scared and strut right past them
they can follow me

afraid to be first,
I will bust a move

[Chorus]
rock rock rock, boogie rocking
rock rock rock, rocking the boogie
rock rock rock, boogie rocking
help me rock rock, rock the boogie

crowd is staring at one person dancing
many feet, one starts tapping

a chain reaction! they’re all dancing!

[chorus]

crowd is now hitting the floor
they’re showing up in force
and dancing faster than me
that’s what it takes to rock the boogie

[chorus]

01/02/25

On my way to dance at the boogie
find a partner keep up with me
my beer buzz pumping through my veins
I will rock my way

Boogie dance floor is not rocking
full of people, not a soul dancing
they just stand there, a scared group
I am first to bust a move

[Chorus]
rock rock rock, boogie rocking
rock rock rock, rocking the boogie
rock rock rock, boogie rocking
help me rock rock, rock the boogie

crowd is staring at one person dancing
many feet, one starts tapping

a chain reaction! they’re all dancing!

[chorus]

crowd is now hitting the floor
and show up in full force
all dancing faster than me
that’s what it takes to rock the boogie

[chorus]
